Web3 Games Reach 800k Daily Active Users

The latest data from Footprint Network reveals that the daily active users of Web3 games have reached about 800,000, a notable increase in recent months. However, it also highlights a significant drop in the number of users for some of the popular games.

Axie Infinity Daily Users

Axie Infinity, a blockchain-based game that gained immense popularity during the pandemic, recorded a decline in its daily active users from its peak of millions to just 9,000 users at present. Similarly, Stepn, a social network for gamers, has also witnessed a sharp decline from its highest daily active users of 110,000 to the current 4,000. Even Illuvium, a relatively new blockchain game, has only a few hundred daily active users.

The decline in user engagement for these games may be attributed to several factors, including the growing competition in the GameFi (gaming and DeFi) sector, the increasing difficulty in gameplay, and the fluctuation in cryptocurrency prices.

Growing GameFi Popularity

However, industry experts believe that this is a temporary phase, and the GameFi sector will continue to grow in the long run. The integration of blockchain technology with gaming has opened up a new world of opportunities for gamers to earn cryptocurrency while playing games, making it an attractive option for both gamers and investors.

As per the Footprint Network report, some Web3 games have managed to maintain their popularity and user engagement. Games like My DeFi Pet, Splinterlands, and The Sandbox have recorded a steady increase in their daily active users.

The Sandbox, a game where players can create, share, and monetize their own gaming experiences, has emerged as one of the most popular Web3 games with over 80,000 daily active users. Similarly, Splinterlands, a collectible card game, has witnessed a surge in its user base, with over 50,000 daily active users.

The Footprint Network statistics suggest that the GameFi sector is still in its early stages, with several opportunities for growth and development. As the sector matures, it will be interesting to see how the competition evolves and which games emerge as the winners in this exciting new field.
